Our Seaview Vineyard in the Awatere Valley is New Zealand's most coastal vineyard. Here our vines battle against the elements producing small berries with thick skins and wonderfully rich and intense flavours.


This aromatic wine shows pure fruit flavours of passionfruit, blackcurrant leaf, fresh herbs, layered with bright citrus notes. The palate is textured and elegant, with the distinctive mineral finish that our Single Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc is renowned for.

VINTAGE SUMMARY
The growing season in Marlborough started out warm and dry, resulting in very even flowering and ultimately balanced vines with the right amount of crop to get them through to harvest. The warm weather continued through Spring and Summer, with periodic rains which kept the vines hydrated through the warm growing season. The warmer conditions meant that harvest started around two weeks earlier than the previous year and the fruit harvested was full of flavour, with naturally balanced acidity and lovely weight. The Sauvignon Blanc from this vintage is showing the wonderful typicity that our Seaview Vineyard is known for – highly aromatic fruit flavours of blackcurrant leaf and citrus blossom with a vibrant palate that is pure with an elegant mineral finish.

VITICULTURE
Our Seaview Vineyard in the Awatere Valley is exposed to some of the toughest growing conditions in Marlborough; high sunshine and wind, cool nights and low rainfall which produces a smaller, thicker skinned berry with intense fruit flavours. This wine is a blend of two different blocks on the property – one warmer, sheltered inland block and a coastal block. The wine brings together in harmony the diverse spectrums of the blocks; the warmer site contributing the expressive aromatics and the cooler site giving the mineral backbone and length.

WINEMAKING
Winemaker: Jeff Fyfe
Harvest Date: 31st March-  9th April 2018. 
Winemaking Analysis: Alc 13.0% pH 3.24 TA 7.4 RS 2.6g/l
Fruit from two contrasting areas in the Seaview Vineyard was selected for this wine and harvested individually. The fruit was de-stemmed then pressed gently prior to cold settling for 72 hours. The clear juice was then racked off and each parcel was fermented separately using a specially selected yeast to enhance varietal character. A long cool fermentation followed to capture and enhance the pure aromatics. The wine was blended, stabilised and filtered prior to bottling.

Lifted apple and green capsicum on the nose. Relatively sweet fruit flavours of gooseberry with a little passionfruit and capsicum. There's a degree of resudual sweetness here but it is pleasant and lively with good texture and a citrussy zing. 3.5 Stars
