Tasting Notes

TASTING NOTE
The Crossings Sauvignon Blanc shows lifted notes of gooseberry and passionfruit, underpinned with citrus notes. The palate is full with pure fruit flavours, yet balanced with a persistent, crisp mineral finish.

Enjoy with both fresh and cooked seafood dishes such as oysters, prawns and fish.

VITICULTURE & WINEMAKING
The 2016 growing season was warm and dry, with cool nights - perfect conditions for growing Sauvignon Blanc. We harvested the grapes over a three week period, picking each block at the point of optimum flavour development. This year’s wines are perfectly balanced by our hallmark fresh minerality.

For this wine, we identified nine premium parcels of Sauvignon Blanc from our Awatere Valley vineyards. Each parcel was picked and fermented separately, allowing us to enhance varietal character using carefully selected yeast strains. A long, cool fermentation took place over four weeks, followed by blending stabilisation and filtering prior to bottling.

Brimming with the unique Crossings combination of tropical fruit intensity and stunningly crisp acidity, these wines are the perfect expression of the Awatere’s deeply complex terrior.

TOP 10

This example shows very good varietal typicity with notes of cut grass, gooseberry and capsicum on the nose. The palete too is nicely varietal; lemon and herbs showing moderate complexity. The wine is firm and textural in the mouth; quite pleasant and concenrated showing nice weight and balance right through the finish.

SOMMELIER WINE AWARDS 2013

"Rich and textured in flavour our judges loved the value here, and the exuberant mix of flavours - from gooseberry, apple and citrus through to passionfruit, mango and guava, with hints of asparagus and grass too. 'Nice acidity - a very classic style,' said Hotel Terravina's Laura Rhys MS."
