Having sheep graze in the vineyard cuts down on energy intensive mowing, but has its pitfalls once the vines grow and the grapes emerge. Yealands Estate, a Marlborough winery that’s renowned for environmentally sustainable initiatives, has come up with an all-season solution. Our flock of Babydoll miniature sheep stand barely two feet tall. Too short to reach the fruit, these pint-sized organic-weeders provide year round mowing and pest control, plus a handy dose of fertiliser. Nurtured from the ground up with sustainable practices and produced in a carboNZero certified winery, the pure and intense flavours of Babydoll reflect the winery’s innovative thinking in tune with the environment.

Babydoll Rosé offer luscious ripe raspberry flavours on the palate with a fresh and fruity mouth-watering finish. Great with a picnic basket filled with your favourite summer snacks.

Wine Analysis

Harvest Date: 19th March - 1st April 2018
Vineyard: Marlborough
Total Acidity: 5.76
Alcohol: 13%
pH: 3.60
Residual Sugar: 4.1 g/l

Vintage: The growing season in Marlborough started out warm and dry, resulting in even flowering and ultimately balanced vines with the right amount of crop to get them through to harvest. The warm weather continued through Spring and Summer, with periodic rains which kept the vines hydrated throughout the growing season. These warmer conditions also meant harvest started around two weeks earlier than the previous year and resulted in a Rosé that is filled with lifted aromatics and a beautiful concentrated mouthfeel

Winemaking: The parcels of fruit that created this Pinot Rosé were individually harvested over a period of two weeks. The fruit was crushed, destemmed, briefly soaked and then gently pressed. The juice was cold settled for 48 hours then racked prior to a long cool fermentation in stainless steel tanks to capture bright, fresh fruit characters. Each parcel was fermented separately with a range of yeasts to build complexity and structure. Following fermentation the wine was blended, stabilised and filtered prior to bottling.

Winemaker Tasting Notes
This pretty light peach coloured Rosé has an enticing bouquet of pomegranate, fresh strawberries and honeysuckle. A juicy, rich palate with warming flavours of strawberry shortcake, which is given focus and length by well-balanced acidity. Have with goats cheese, light summer salads, or your favourite shellfish.
